Does Medicaid or Medicare pay for Assisted Living?

Medicare does not pay for Assisted Living. However, through home health services you may receive physical therapy, nursing care, occupational therapy, and more while living at Our House Assisted Living. Please contact Our House for a list of Home Health Agencies. In order for Medicaid to help pay for Assisted Living you must be admitted to a skillied nursing facility and be approved for long-term Medicaid. Once you have qualified for Medicaid you must apply for the New Choices Waiver Program. This is a State program that assists residents who do not need nursing home care transition into Assisted Living ( it saves the State thousands of dollars to help pay for Assisted Living instead of paying for full care which isn’t needed). You must contact Kathleen Bowman from the New Choices Waiver Program at 801-538-6497 and she will send you information about how to apply for the program. Once you are eligible and meet the requirments a case manager will assist you find an appropriate Assisted Living facility. Not all assisted living homes accept Medicaid. Our House Assisted Living does accept Medicaid. The case manager and the Assisted Living facility will asses your financial needs to determine how much “room and board” needs to be paid. Medicaid pays for the care and you pay for the room and board which varies from $300-1200+ a month depending on your income. Please contact Our House and they will assist you through the process.
